Meet Dr. Lin

Your Board-Certified Orthodontist in Union Square, NY

Then

Hello! I am Dr. Chia-Hung (Tony) Lin, the founder of Fellow Orthodontist.

Growing up, my family could not afford braces for me, and I spent my high school years feeling self-conscious about my smile. This insecurity in turn made me shy and fearful of public speaking.

When I was in dental school, I finally saved up enough money to pay for my orthodontic treatment. It was expensive because I wanted to be treated by a trustworthy orthodontic specialist.

Now

I attended the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and earned my specialist degree in orthodontics & dentofacial orthopedics at the St Barnabas Hospital in New York. I am a board-certified orthodontist, a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

I chose to specialize in orthodontics, because orthodontics is truly a profession of arts and science. I fell in love with orthodontics for two reasons: my affinity for photography art and my natural joy in making people look and feel their best.

I take a unique, artistic approach when crafting your personalized treatment plan.

Future

Many people hold back their smiles because they feel self-conscious about how they look to others. As a board-certified orthodontist, I help people achieve confident and healthy smiles, so they look more youthful and feel their best.

I believe we can all make a difference in this world in our unique ways. I hope to utilize my expertise and specialist training to help many people be the best version of themselves with a confident and healthy smile.

My mission is to be the best orthodontist in Manhattan without being the most expensive specialist. I promise that you will receive the highest quality of orthodontic treatment at an affordable and accessible cost.

Dr. Lin’s artistic smile philosophy

5 Keys to a beautiful smile

Because a beautiful smile is more than just straight teeth, it’s art.

Facial Harmony

Achieving straight teeth is a given.

What is sometimes neglected is the facial balance. When I treat a patient, I am treating a person, and not just a set of teeth. I always make sure that there is good lip support and mid-face support.

Midline Symmetry

Symmetry is a powerful influence on the perception of beauty.

Symmetry is a powerful influence on the perception of beauty. Although it is rare for any person to have a perfectly symmetric face, our brains put a lot of emphasis on upper dental midline. When I design a treatment, I always want the upper dental midline to be within 2mm of the facial midline for a beautiful and symmetric smile appearance.

Smile Width

What does it mean when someone talks about a Hollywood smile?

It means having a broader smile with a full display of upper teeth. This matters because a person with a fuller smile will generally look more youthful. During treatment, I always try to broaden the smile and display more upper incisors whenever it is anatomically possible.

Smile Curve

As the saying goes, "a smile is a curve that sets everything straight".

A smile is most natural when it follows the curve of the lower lip. A flat smile is often a sign of aging. When I design the treatment, it’s crucial that the upper anterior teeth are positioned so that they follow a gentle curve.

Artistry is all in the details

I put on my artist hat when I recontour the anatomy of teeth and gum.

Often, malocclusion can lead to uneven wear on teeth shape and uneven gum level. Hard and soft tissue contouring post-ortho treatment can turn an average smile into a stunning smile. As an orthodontist, I put on my artist hat when I recontour the anatomy of teeth and gum as the final touch of a smile design.

Only 1 in 3 orthodontists is board-certified

I wanted to go the extra mile and earn my board certification to show my dedication to providing the highest quality of orthodontics for you. I am proud to be a board-certified orthodontist with a decade of clinical experience treating patients of all ages.

For an orthodontist to become board certified, he or she is required to complete peer-developed, externally-validated written and clinical examinations. This achievement is reached by pursuing additional voluntary education and ongoing assessment.

Board certification indicates the highest commitment to excellence.
